ESU Student Testimonials

"To be in a foreign country by yourself and experiencing another culture was one of the most liberating feelings in the world. Being from a small town in Kansas and seeing something so beautiful on the other side of the world was one of the most amazing and life changing experiences in my life."     – Melissa Augustine (AustraLearn Internship)

"Everyone I talked to before I left for my semester abroad told me that I would come back a changed person. This was not apparent to me, but they could not have been more accurate. I did not change in noticeable physical characteristics, but more on my outlook on life and the people involved in it. Being all alone in a foreign country causes you to learn things about yourself you previously had never been forced to address because you were in your comfort zone and the world was always something familiar. Studying abroad allowed me to see and appreciate the world's diversity, while at the same time connecting with individuals so different from myself. It also caused me to form a greater gratitude for what I have and where I come from, that otherwise might not have been as deeply understood. For me, studying abroad has been the opportunity of a lifetime. I would recommend it to anyone!" - David Waite (AustraLearn semester)

"Everyone should seriously consider studying abroad; whether your major is modern languages or mathematics, going abroad is an amazing experience that won't compare to anything else you'll do as an undergraduate/graduate student. If someone had told me earlier how affordable, easy, and fun it is to go abroad-I would definately have gone earlier and probably more than once! The experience really put things into perspective for me and has opened up a lot of opportunities (both academically and professionally) that I necer would have thought possible. Studying in a foreign country enabled me to work toward my academic goals while enriching my knowledge and understanding of other cultures and of course different perspectives. I received ESU credits toward my major (Spanish) and minor (Ethnic & Gender Studies) and had a lot of flexibility with the classes that I took and my academic schedule. The flat-rate tuition program at ESU and the study abroad program that I chose (ISEP) also made it incredibly affordable for me. I was able to compliment my studies with my travels, which of course was a very important part of the whole experience! Really, studying abroad is the best way for you to get to know another part of the world while earning credits toward your degree! My only other piece of advice would be to get to know international students at ESU-they are some of the coolest people I have ever met! They are so eager to learn about us and our culture, and they are very helpful if you want advice about traveling abroad. The least you can do is help them feel more comforable and get to know them; you may be surprised how easy it is to make a lifelong friend!" - Tiara Naputi (2007 ESU Outstanding Senior)
