Studying Abroad:
Safety, Health, and the Law
The purpose of this section is to provide students with resources so they will be able to maximize their health and safety while studying abroad. The Office of International Education cannot answer every question or anticipate every situation, but the information in the links below will provide students with a good, basic knowledge of ways to prevent illness or injury, and protect their safety and security. Keep in mind that crime rates in many countries are much lower than they are in the USA. Study Abroad Participants are strongly encouraged to read the following information and to contact the Office of International Education with further questions. Students should also do some extra research on the country where they will be living.
The following topics of Safety, Security, Health, and Law are key to a successful study abroad experience. Please refer to the specific issues which are linked to the U.S. State Department web site http://travel.state.gov.
