Requirements for
Academic Programs
A decision regarding your admission will be made as soon as your application file is complete and will be based on the following:
Cumulative Grade Point Average:
2.5 to 3.0 or better (depending on division and major) for graduates.
English proficiency (TOEFL score, etc.):
Minimum TOEFL score required for graduates is 550.
Computer-based TOEFL equivalent score is 213.
*Graduate students with a TOEFL score below 575 are required to take a course in English Communication skills.
* If you do not meet these scores or have never taken TOEFL, you will be required to take the ESU English Placement Exam to verify your English proficiency.
Achievement on Examinations and Tests:
Graduate international student applicants will be informed by their department/division of any required achievement tests, i.e. GMAT for MBA, GRE for MLS, etc..
Graduate Requirements
for
Intensive English Program
Emporia State University offers both intermediate and advanced courses for students who need to improve their communication skills. We do not offer a beginning level.
Minimum TOEFL Scores for Intensive English Program for graduates is 450. Computer-based TOEFL equivalent score is 133.
The duration of time to complete the Intensive English Program is based on the English Proficiency Test score as well as the student's initiative and performance in class. Students may be allowed to enroll in one or more academic courses while enrolled in the Intensive English Program depending on their placement scores.
