Fall 2016 Events
Sept. 3rd - Kansas City Shopping Trip
8:00 am - 8:00 pm
On this trip you will have a chance to go shopping at the Plaza Country Club, Oak Park Mall and the International Market. This trip is intended to provide you with the opportunity to learn more about the Kansas City area. This unique experience will provide a comfortable social environment and a chance to form new friendships.
Sept. 7th - ESU Students day at the Farmers Market
5:00pm - 7:00pm in the parking lot at 7th & Merchant, Downtown Emporia
Come out and enjoy the best of home grown, home baked and hand crafted by local farmers, gardeners and artisans. There is a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to be purchased from sweet corn and tomatoes to eggplant and baked goods and so much more! There will also be performances by ESU students!
Sept 8 & 9th - OPT/CPT Workshop
3:30 pm - 4:30 pm in the Greek Room
OPT & CPT are designed for international students with F-1 visas to provide them with an opportunity to gain actual employment experience in their chosen profession. During this workshop you will learn about each program, general requirements as well as steps to apply. Faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend.
Sept. 14th - Game Night - WAW Library
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the WAW Library
This is an opportunity for you to interact with other students while taking a break from hectic academic lives. Some of the games include: Twister, Apple to Apples, Puzzles, Chess, Uno, Jenga, Pick Up Sticks Games, Wii Games & more.
Sept. 21st - Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-off Event
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Kellogg Circle
The Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff will launch a series of events throughout September and October. This event will get you excited for the events to come. There will be a jalapeño eating contest, giveaways and cultural displays for the various Hispanic and Latin American cultures.
Sept. 22nd - Fun on the Field
4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the OG Practice Fields
This is a chance for you to meet other students in a fun filled environment. Join us and participate in games from all over all over the world. International and U.S. students can join teams for a chance to win prizes. Admission is free and food will be provided.
Sept. 28th - Fan Lin Safety Program
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm in Webb Hall
This safety precaution workshop is in memory of the two international students at Emporia State University, Yawei Fan & Zheng Lin who tragically passed away in an apartment fire in October 2011. The topics of discussion in this program will be: Kitchen Fires, Tips for Pedestrians, Severe Weather, Police & Safety, Extreme Cold & Sun Safety.
Oct. 15th - ESU Homecoming Celebration
11:00 am - 2:00 am at 4th & Commercial Street
Join us downtown in Emporia for the Homecoming Parade! This is your opportunity to represent your country in front of the entire community! Following the parade join us for the pre-game tailgate just north of the Milton Tennis Courts. There will be food, games, and music!
Oct. 27th - International Cultural Show
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm in the Albert Taylor Hall
The show will consist of performances from ESU students, displaying the 27 great multicultural community of Emporia State University.
Nov. 14 - 18th - International Education Week
IEW is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchanges worldwide. It is typically celebrated throughout the country. This is a great opportunity to learn from other cultures and teach others about your own. Events include study abroad fairs, cultural displays, international culture show, international tea party, and much more.
Nov. 18th - Colors of ESU & International Tea Party
All day / 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm in MU Mainstreet
This is a chance for you to dress in your country’s traditional costume and taste different teas from all around the world. Emporia State University has a great diversity of cultures that love tea!
Dec. 8th -Farewell Party
5:00 pm - 8:00 pm in Webb Hall
As another academic year draws to a close, we celebrate the success of international graduates by inviting their family and friends to a reception following their respective ceremonies. Food and drink will be provided. RSVP is required.
