NURSING PRE-ADMISSION TEST - GUIDE
Completion of a standardized pre-admission test is one component of the application process for admission to ESU Newman Division of Nursing. The TEAS has been designated as the required test and must be completed before May 1 of the application year. Students are responsible for reserving a test date and time and for paying the costs associated with the pre-admission test. What is the TEAS?
Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) -- The TEAS is designed to predict the academic readiness of applicants prior to admission into a program of study in nursing. The four subtests are math, science, English, and reading.
The Math subtest covers whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions and decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion.
Reading covers paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions.
The English subtest measures knowledge of punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling.
The Science portion of the exam covers science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, basic physical principles, and general science.

Testing location?
The TEAS for ESU Newman Division of Nursing applicants will be administered at the Newman Division of Nursing, Cora Miller Hall, 1127 Chestnut Street, Emporia, Kansas.
What is the cost and how do I register for the test?
The cost of the TEAS is approximately $40.00 and must be paid in advance when registering for a test date. The REGISTRATION FORM will be distributed with the NDN application packet beginning January, 2013 or may be printed from this web page after January 1.
What version of the TEAS will be used?
Version 5.0
Is there a required score?
The test results from the administration of the TEAS version 5.0 will be used as one component of the selection process for admission to ESU Newman Division of Nursing. Required performance in the ATI Academic Preparedness category is at the proficient level.
What if I have taken the test already?
If you have taken the TEAS version 5.0 within the past 2 years (since May 1, 2011-May 1, 2013) you may request that ATI forward results by email to the Coordinator at ESU Newman Division of Nursing. If you have taken version 4.0, you must retake the TEAS using version 5.0. Students may only take the test once per application year.
Is the test timed?
Yes, the individual sections are timed.
May I use a calculator?
No, the use of calculators is not allowed for the TEAS test. Calculations may be written on a sheet of paper.
Is it possible to study for the test?
The test has been developed by Assessment Technologies Institute, LLC (ATI). A TEAS pre-test study manual and an online practice assessment are available for a cost through the company.
