ESU business students score high on assessment

Students in Emporia State University’s School of Business are getting high marks on their knowledge and ability to apply significant concepts, theories and analytical methods to practical business problems. They scored in the 85th percentile on the recently-administered Major Field Test-Business (MFT).

The ranking is the highest ever for the business school. “We’re improving, and I would give credit to the faculty and our students,” said Dr. Robert Hite, dean of the School of Business. “This result is particularly impressive since only the better schools of business administer this standardized test,” Hite added.

The MFT is a comprehensive examination of business concepts. Students are tested on their knowledge of accounting, economics, management, quantitative business analysis, finance, marketing, legal and social environments, information systems, and international issues. Results of the online test give students immediate results, indicating their placement among all other students participating.

“The MFT provides an independent source of assessment, which is very meaningful to the major accrediting agency of business schools, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business,” said Hite. ESU’s School of Business holds AACSB accreditation.

Students typically take the Major Field Test-Business during their last semester of college. This fall, 57 ESU students took the MFT.
