ESU readies for 2007 winter commencement

Caps and gowns, speeches, diplomas and proud relatives will fill Emporia’s William Lindsay White Auditorium Saturday, Dec. 15. Emporia State University’s winter commencement takes place at 10 a.m. in the auditorium, located at 111 E. Sixth Ave.

ESU will confer undergraduate degrees on approximately 265 students during the ceremony. Another 168 students are candidates for graduate degrees.

This year’s Roe R. Cross Distinguished Professor at ESU, Dr. Elizabeth (Betsy) Yanik, will deliver the commencement address. Yanik, a passionate teacher who directs and sustains a half dozen math and science mentoring programs for young women, joined the ESU mathematics faculty in 1990.

The Presidential Award for Distinguished Service to Diversity will be presented at commencement. The award recognizes an individual for leadership in furthering diversity and mutual respect. Selection criteria include breadth and depth of involvement in such areas as recruitment, retention, curriculum, and extra-curricular activities.
