Student newspaper staff earns recognition at state journalism contest
Journalists from Emporia State University’s campus newspaper, The Bulletin, brought home awards from the Kansas Associated Collegiate Press conference April 19 – 20 in Hutchinson.
Bulletin managing editor Kelsey Ryan, a sophomore from Newton, won first place awards in news writing and series writing. Former arts and entertainment editor Ashley-Michelle Papon, a freshman from Shawnee, took first place in the review writing category.
The Bulletin is in the four-year Kansas public university newspaper category, and the newspaper received a silver medal in overall competition.
Honorable mention awards went to Alex Pedersen, a junior from Olathe, for newswriting and feature writing. Ashley Peaches, a senior from Kansas City, Kans., earned an honorable mention award for series writing.
The Bulletin’s online editor, Ali Nashatizadeh, graduate student from Emporia, won an honorable mention in the infographic category, and Ryan picked up an honorable mention in copy editing.
