ESU introduces ResearchChannel to local cable television system
Expanded abilities to highlight local education events are coming with the launch of a new cable television network in Emporia. ResearchChannel, available to Emporia’s CableOne subscribers on channel 8, has begun broadcasting.
ResearchChannel is a consortium of leading research and academic institutions sharing their work with the public. Now available to more than 30 million television viewers, the network presents remarkable speakers, researchers and scholars in programs appealing to a wide variety of audiences.
Additionally, the channel opens up new opportunities to highlight events and presentations occurring in the Emporia community. A daily schedule of programs is available online at www.emporia.edu/esutv8.
“While the opportunity to expose the public to the latest trends in research and education is important, even more exciting is the new ability for Emporia State University to reach out to the community by rebroadcasting programs and events occurring on campus,” said Michael Erickson, ESU associate vice president for technology and computing services.
By joining this consortium, Emporia State University has the opportunity to contribute presentations by ESU professors and lectures by campus visitors.
“We’re excited about sharing the learning opportunities that occur on the ESU campus with a global audience,” said Dr. Michael R. Lane, ESU president.
Video from the ResearchChannel news conference is available here.
In addition to ESU programming, channel 8 will also feature content produced by USD 253 which will be included in the local programming schedule.
“We now have the opportunity to air announcements three times a day on a set schedule,” said Nancy Horst, USD 253 community relations director. “Community members know that they can tune in daily at 7 a.m., noon or 5:30 p.m., and find out the latest announcements concerning Emporia Public Schools,” she continued. The school district also has the flexibility to occasionally air programming that is produced by our video broadcasting students at EHS.
Emporia State University-based programming will fill out the remainder of those three daily time segments. ESU information will be broadcast at 7:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 5 p.m. During the remainder of the time, viewers can watch quality educational programming.
As part of the realignment, broadcasts of local governing body meetings are being shifted to CableOne’s channel 18.
Another feature of the reinvented channel 8 will be the continued opportunity for local not-for-profit organizations to air public service announcements. Qualified agencies interested in publicizing upcoming events may email channel8@emporia.edu to request airtime for their announcements.
