María Figueroa and three of his piano students performed for Robohn’s students as part of their visit to Emporia ahead of the city’s Cinco de Mayo celebration.

Activities conclude with a public concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 5 in Heath Recital Hall, Beach Hall on the ESU campus.

Figueroa teaches at the National School of Music in Mexico City. Joining him on the Emporia trip are three of his students, Samuel Bográn Castro, Christian Daniel Rojas López and Oscar Vázquez Medrano.  The concert will feature music for piano by Mexican and Spanish composers.

“This is part of an exchange with their school,” said Dr. Martín Cuéllar, associate professor of music at ESU. “I, along with four of my students, traveled to Mexico City during spring break to perform a concert there.”
