Emporia State stages “The Vagina Monologues”
It’s become a tradition at Emporia State University—a reading of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” each year during Women’s History Month. This year’s reading of the award-winning episodic play will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12 in Brighton Lecture Hall room 189 on the ESU campus.
The event is sponsored by People Organized for Women’s Equal Rights (POWER), a student organization on campus. Proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales go to groups working for the advancement of women, including V-Day, an international organization working to end violence against women, and Emporia’s local SOS, which provides aid and shelter to women who need it.
The show is student-directed. Performers range from ESU students to faculty to community members. This year’s director is Adam Rust, an ESU senior.
Tickets will be sold in the ESU Memorial Union Monday, March 10 from 1-4 p.m., and Tuesday, March 11 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., in addition to being available at the door prior to each performance.
