Students earn Boylan Scholarship honors

Emporia State University has awarded Laurence C. Boylan Scholar Awards to Ashley Long and Chelsea Patton.

Long, originally from Freeport, Ill., is currently working on her masters’ degree in history with a concentration in world history through ESU’s Department of Social Sciences. Patton is from Topeka and is pursuing a master’s degree in school psychology through the Department of Psychology and Special Education.

Both students will be honored at ESU’s 2008 Research and Creativity Forum April 10.

The Laurence C. Boylan Scholar award was created by a special fund drive to honor Dr. Boylan, creator of the graduate program and Dean of Graduate Studies at ESU from 1958-66. The Boylan fund provides awards for distinguished scholarship in graduate study at ESU by honoring outstanding scholars.

Long and Patton will each receive cash stipends of $2,300 and their names will be added to the Laurence C. Boylan Scholar Award plaque on display in the Office of Graduate Studies.
