ESU psychology graduate students move on to doctorate programs

A substantial number of Emporia State University psychology graduates are pursuing doctorate programs at other universities this fall. Graduate students who have been accepted into Ph.D. programs include:

• Brianna Bennett , Emporia. She will be studying clinical psychology at Texas Tech University.
• Mariah Laver, Harlan, Iowa. Laver will enter the University of North Dakota’s Ph.D. program in clinical psychology.
• Tyler Miller, Yankton, S.D. Miller will pursue a doctorate in cognitive psychology at Texas A & M.
• Jennifer Peterson, Kechi. Peterson will study experimental psychology in the doctorate program of Texas Christian University.
• Stephanie Wade, Gem. She will begin study in the University of Missouri-Columbia Ph.D. program in cognition and neuroscience.
• Tyler Wray, Olathe. Wray will pursue a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of South Dakota.

“This is pretty phenomenal for our department, both in the breadth of doctoral programs, and the geographic scattering of the institutions our graduates will attend,” said Dr. Ken Weaver, professor of psychology and special education.

In addition, three ESU psychology alumni have also been accepted into doctorate programs starting this fall:

• Melissa Crane, Wichita, will be working on her Ph.D. in experimental health psychology at Ohio University.
• Sara (Helms) Hofmeier, Chapel Hill, N.C., will attend the University of North Carolina-Greensboro to earn her doctorate in counseling education.
• Cassie Russell, Emporia, will enter the educational psychology doctorate program at the University of Northern Colorado.
