ESU to recognize Schwenn at reception
Emporia State University will honor the service of a departing administrator at a reception next week. The reception for Dr. John Schwenn and his wife, Judy, will take place from 3-5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18 at the Sauder Alumni Center, 1500 Highland in Emporia.
Schwenn, vice president for academic affairs at ESU since 1997, will become the president of Dalton State College, Dalton, Ga., on March 1.
Schwenn has been associated with ESU since 1989, when he was hired as an associate professor and associate chair of the Division of Psychology and Special Education in The Teachers College.
In 2006, Schwenn served as Emporia State’s interim president for five months. Dr. Michael R. Lane succeeded Schwenn as ESU’s 15th president in November 2006.
The Schwenns have three grown children and two grandchildren. Judy Schwenn teaches ninth and tenth grade English at Emporia High School, and will stay in Emporia through the end of the school year.
