English professor to receive Ruth Schillinger Faculty Award
Dr. Susan Kendrick, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, is the recipient of the Ruth Schillinger Faculty Award for 2008. Dr. Kendrick will receive her award on Friday, Feb. 29, at the opening reception for Women's History Month, Sauder Alumni Center, 3:30-5:00.
Dr. Kendrick, a specialist in Renaissance literature and feminist literary theory, is completing a book about Queen Elizabeth I for the Edwin Mellen Press. Dr. Kendrick began teaching at ESU in 2001 and has been an active member of the Ethnic and Gender Studies steering committee since her arrival. She has also served as faculty adviser to the campus women's group P.O.W.E.R. (People Organizing for Women's Equal Rights).
Dr. Kendrick’s nomination was accompanied by more than a dozen letters of support from women students she has mentored during her years at ESU.
The Ruth Schillinger Award, named in honor of the late Ruth Schillinger, former Emporia State Dean of Women, is presented to a faculty member in recognition of outstanding service to the women of Emporia State University. Dr. Kendrick is the thirteenth recipient. All members of the ESU and Emporia communities are welcome to attend Friday’s Women’s History Month reception to help celebrate Dr. Kendrick.
