Kansas Arts Commission awards go to three from ESU

A member of Emporia State University’s art faculty and two of her students are receiving recognition from the Kansas Arts Commission.

Roberta Eichenberg, assistant professor of art, has received a KAC Mid-Career Artist Fellowship. Eichenberg submitted a collection of glasswork that earned the KAC award.

The KAC created the Emerging Artist Awards to recognize promising student work. The two ESU students receiving those awards are Heather Smith, a senior from Raymore, Mo., and Sarah Sparks, a senior from Olathe.

Smith creates art on the computer as part of her work as a student graphics assistant in Emporia State’s Public Affairs and Marketing office. Sparks submitted images of blown sculpted glass for the award competition.

“I’m quite proud that two of these Emerging Artist awards went to students from Emporia State,” noted Eichenberg.

Cash prizes accompany the awards, which will be presented at a reception March 10 in Topeka.
