Student newspaper staff earns recognition at state journalism contest
Journalists from Emporia State University’s campus newspaper, The Bulletin, carted home awards from the Kansas Associated Collegiate Press conference April 6-7 in Wichita.
Bulletin copy editor Molly Heavner, a senior from Spring Hill, won first place in news writing for her story on Emporia State alumni and students with connections to the Greensburg tornado disaster. Managing editor Mallory Livingston, a sophomore from Topeka, and staff writer Christi Hays, a sophomore from Goddard, won third place in series writing. Editor-in-chief Chris Hunter, a senior from Park City, won third place in sports photography.
The Bulletin is in the four-year Kansas public university newspaper category, and the newspaper received a bronze medal in overall competition. Individual honorable mention awards in cartoons went to Pat Becker, a freshman from Wichita, and Taryn Trousdale, a senior from Andover. The Bulletin’s editorial board received an honorable mention in editorial writing, and Hunter received an honorable mention in sports photography.
“Please join me in congratulating these journalism students on their achievement,” said Max McCoy, Bulletin advisor.
