"Because You Cared" program to honor local teachers
To give another example of how much teachers impact the lives of the students they teach, during the National Teachers Hall of Fame induction ceremony June 15, the “Because You Cared” program will take place for the second year.
“The program was developed by the planning committee for the 2006 induction ceremony based on an idea by Dr. John Heim,” Jenny Harder, National Teachers Hall of Fame Director of Induction and Recognition, said.
The program invites junior and senior honor students from Lyon County to come to the induction ceremony and invite a teacher who has helped them and guided them in one way or another.
“The program "Because You Cared" was created as an opportunity for students to say thank you to a teacher they feel has made a difference in their lives,” Harder said.
About 15 students have accepted the invitation thus far. These students and the teachers they bring with them will lead the new inductees into the induction ceremony and the teachers will receive a pin as a token of thanks.
