Phi Kappa Phi inducts new members

Emporia State University’s chapter of Phi Kappa Phi welcomed new members at its spring induction ceremony. Phi Kappa Phi is a National Honor Society that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship in all academic disciplines.

The society selects from the upper seven and one-half percent of students who have reached the final period of their junior year, the upper 10 percent of senior students, and outstanding graduate students, alumni, and faculty. Since the ESU chapter was founded in 1980, more than 700 students and faculty have been initiated into membership.

President Marvin Harrell performed the initiation ceremony. Physical science professor DeWayne Backhus gave the keynote address, entitled “Dog-gone It! What Happened to Pluto?”
