ESU Department of Music to host five workshops for music teachers June 25-29th
Five outstanding teacher clinicians from around the United States will lead workshops for music teachers at all levels on the Emporia State University campus during the week of June 25-29. All sessions will be held in Beach Music Hall. Music teachers may choose from a variety of different topics. All workshops are one day in length, 8:30-4:30, except for the elementary music sessions, which will be held two days, June 26-27.
Using girls from Emporia Middle and High Schools, Dr. Lynne Gackle, University of Central Florida, will discuss and demonstrate working with adolescent girls’ voices on Monday, June 25th. Dr. Artie Almeida, Jacksonville, FL, will work with elementary music teachers on K-6 elementary concepts and activities for two days, June 26-27. Christy Elsner, director of the Allegro Children’s Chorus of Kansas City, will lead a workshop entitled Choral Excellence Boot Camp on Wednesday, June 27th. Ron Jones, a former band director from Sacramento, California, will talk about team building and developing leadership in music performing groups on Thursday, June 28. On Friday, June 29th, the final workshop presenter, Dr. Judy Bowers from Florida State University, will talk about techniques and approaches for teaching developmental choirs, those groups who are developing music reading skills and voice basics. These would include church choirs, junior high/middle school and young high school choruses.
Costs include a workshop fee of $70 for each day. Teachers can also earn one or two graduate credits for an additional tuition fee.
