ESU Theatre presents The Tempest
Hurt, loss, betrayal and anger meet love, destiny and magic in The Tempest by William Shakespeare. For Prospero, Miranda, Ferdinand, Caliban and Ariel, this is no midsummer nights dream, and a storm is brewing . . . Playgoers aged 10 and over will be transported to a magical island where one man and his daughter get the chance to meet the men that put them there when The Tempest is performed April 25-28, 2007 at the Karl C. Bruder Theatre in King Hall.
Written in 1611, The Tempest was Shakespeare's last play and one of his most popular, featuring true love, political revenge and the concentrated power of the playwright's great imagination. The play was originally based on the excitement of the New World discoveries by the early colonizers of America, including first-hand reports of a miraculous shipwreck, and set on a deserted island.
Jim Bartruff directs the production. Su J Mai is the costume designer. Seniors Cara Cusano on costumes and Carmen Patterson on hair and makeup are assisting her. Nancy Pontius is the scenic designer. Eric Luchen, senior, is the assistant to the scenic designer. Ron Fowlkes is designing the lights, and junior Pat Janssen is developing the sound design for the show. The production stage manager is senior Megan McCurdy.
