Graduate teaching assistants receive awards

Emporia State University has awarded Graduate Teaching Assistant University Awards for Excellent Teaching to Ryan Diehl, Ali Nashatizadeh, and Amanda Ruble. Ryan Diehl and Amanda Ruble were nominated by Dr. Rachelle Smith, Associate Professor of English, and Ali Nashatizadeh was nominated by Dr. Brian Schrader, Associate Professor of Psychology and Special Education. These awards were established by the Emporia State University Graduate Council in November, 2005.

Nominees were required to submit a portfolio supporting their teaching excellence. Portfolios included a one-page statement of teaching philosophy, student evaluations, faculty evaluations, sample lesson plans and any other materials which demonstrated excellence in teaching. A faculty committee selected the award recipients.

Ryan Diehl and Amanda Ruble are both working on their master’s degree in English through ESU’s Department of English and Ali Nashatizadeh is working on his master’s degree in Clinical Psychology through ESU’s Department of Psychology and Special Education.

All three students will be honored at ESU’s 2007 Research and Creativity Forum April 12 and receive a cash award of $250.
