International Food Festival showcases different cultures

Emporia State University is hosting its annual International Food Festival September 16 from 4 – 7 p.m. on Morse Hall Lawn, following the football game against Fort Hays State.

The festival is hosted by the Office of International Education and the participating organizations. Those organizations include: A-Han Thai, Black Women’s Network, Chinese Students, First Friends, German Club, Korean Student Association, Muslim Student Association, Sakura (Japanese Student Association), SATO, Spanish Club, and the University Honors Program.

“The purpose of the International Food Festival is to provide a forum for the campus and community to experience the cuisine of other cultures without traveling to a large city,” according to the Office of International Education.

The festival benefits the students, who are allowed to show their traditional clothing and food, and the patrons, who have the opportunity to learn about the many cultures existing on the ESU campus.

Individual groups will be collecting money to benefit their own organizations. The money raised is also used to promote cultural awareness.

Look for delicious ethnic items such as creole, dirty rice, spring rolls, chicken satay, chicken curry rice, mama pak, bierocks, bulgogi, japchae, kimchi, friend rice, kabsah, hummus, teriyaki chicken, cookies, flan, tortilla espanol, chili, pie, apfelkuchen, assorted beverages, and numerous other items.
