Homecoming Musical: "Annie Get Your Gun"
Emporia State University opens their upcoming theatre season with Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun. The 34th Annual Homecoming Scholarship Musical will be performed at Albert Taylor Hall in Plumb Hall October 12-14, 2006 at 7:30 pm and October 15, 2006 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $15 for orchestra seats, $12 for balcony and $8 for students and children in the balcony.
Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun scored a bulls eye when it returned to Broadway in 1999, starring Bernadette Peters with a revised book by Tony, Oscar and Emmy winner Peter Stone. Stone has created a Wild West show-within-a-show recounting the ageless love story of sharpshooters Annie Oakley and Frank Butler. Senior Courtney Slater (Emporia) plays Annie Oakley and Jake Narverud; junior from Meriden plays Frank Butler.
The amazing score, featuring hit after hit after hit is "Berlin's greatest achievement in the theater," wrote the New York Post. Its classic score features some of Berlin’s most popular ballads such as “No Business Like Show Business” and “Anything You Can Do I Can Do.” It also features amazing tricks and a fabulous cowboy band. It tells the story of Buffalo Bill and his Wild West Show that has performed in several countries around the world. Annie Get Your Gun " is a musical for the ages, one of Broadway’s enduring triumphs."
