Challenge drive for Presidential Academic Award scholarships to begin
Scholarships impact the lives of Emporia State University students, and in turn those students impact the community. The Campus/Community Scholarship Challenge, which supports the Presidential Academic Awards program, is the annual opportunity to give students a boost.
The Challenge kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, in the Plumb Hall rotunda on ESU’s campus. The public is invited.
The PAA program is ESU’s premier recruiting tool for incoming freshman and transfer students. Based on academic performance, students are eligible for awards ranging from $500 to $1,200. In this academic year, 544 students earned a Presidential Academic Award, totaling $386,500.
In last year’s challenge, 79 percent of campus personnel participated in the challenge – compared to a national average of 17.5 percent. This year’s participation goal is 100 percent as the university and its friends work to offset the rising costs of higher education and keep it affordable for all students.
