ESU Spring enrollment tops 6,000
Emporia State University reports that 6,023 students have officially enrolled this semester, an increase of 137 students over spring 2005. ESU’s spring enrollment topped 6,000 for the first time since 1966.
"Emporia State is a student-centered institution. We give students a personalized education that prepares them for a fulfilling life and a successful career," ESU President Kay Schallenkamp said. "We are a university devoted to learning and providing every student with instant opportunities for growth, involvement and leadership."
Off-campus enrollment rose nine percent with extension courses offered in Johnson County, Kansas City, Kan., Eldorado, Dodge City and Garden City.
“ESU continues to experience growth in distance education; and continues to educate teachers who seek professional development or master's degrees through ESU's extensive array of online courses,” John Schwenn, Vice President for Academic Affairs said. “ESU is a leader in helping place-bound Kansans continue their education through distance delivery. Our faculty members are committed to meeting student needs no matter how distant or unusual those needs may be.”
At 30 percent of ESU’s total enrollment, graduate enrollment continues to be the highest percent of the student body in the Kansas Regent system.
The International student population also experienced an increase this spring with 72 new International students on campus. “We are strengthening our reputation in the world and partnering with universities in China,” Schwenn said. “We are very pleased with the continued growth in the International program.”
On-campus retention also continues to strengthen. “ESU’s Center for Student Involvement (CSI) plays a critical role in on-campus retention,” Jim Williams, Vice President for Student Affairs said. “Our CSI programs engage students early in both academics and social opportunities.”
