President Kay Schallenkamp is requesting that all graduates remain seated until the commencement ceremony concludes.
“Commencement is an important ceremony, not only for graduates, but for parents and families as well. While I understand that families are anxious to continue the celebration at private receptions, it is imperative that we are respectful as we celebrate this time-honored tradition,” Schallenkamp said. “I ask that each graduate remain seated until the commencement ceremony concludes. This will allow all graduates to receive the same recognition and respect regardless of their position in the program.”
In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be divided into undergraduate and graduate exercises. Undergraduate degrees will be given at White Auditorium, 111 East Sixth Ave,. and the graduate degree ceremony will be in Albert Taylor Hall of Plumb Hall. Both exercises will occur at 9:30 a.m. Seating will be limited and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
About 6,000 people are expected to attend the ceremony for the estimated 600 undergraduate and graduate students.
