Roster for esteemed Ambassadors organization announced for 2006-07

Thirty-eight Emporia State University students have committed to serve the university in the esteemed Ambassadors organization for the 2006-07 academic year, donating thousands of volunteer hours to act as ESU’s official hosts.

The organization will return 22 members from this year and bring in 16 new members. From top to bottom, the Ambassadors represent a model of service among students. They host events such as career fairs, receptions, and events for the President. They conduct daily campus tours for prospective students and parents, represent ESU at the state fair, sponsor Senior Week, and appear at alumni, Foundation and Homecoming events, and more.

“The way these students give of their time is remarkable,” said Roy Mann, alumni relations director and the group’s advisor. “It’s no exaggeration that we’d have to hire additional staff to perform all the work these students readily volunteer for. We’re so fortunate, and so grateful.”

The Ambassadors consistently earn national awards competing against universities of all sizes. Two members were named Outstanding Student Leader from the Association of Student Advancement Programs (ASAP) in consecutive years, Ryan Diehl in 2004 and John Harms in 2005. In 1999 and 2001, the organization was named ASAP’s Outstanding Organization. In 2006, Roy Mann was named Outstanding Advisor.

New and returning members applied and interviewed for a spot on next year’s roster. The 38 members were chosen from 58 applicants.
