Relaxing alternative to lunch offered

George Head

George Head prepares to teach his noon Harmony Meditation class

Looking for a relaxing way to spend your lunch hour? Then the Emporia State University Recreation Center has the class for you. Harmony Meditation, led by ESU employee George Head, is designed to aid in stress reduction.

“With the stresses of every day life at and away from work, this class is a period of relaxation and deep introspection,” said Head, Graphic Designer for Technology and Computing Services. “The class is designed to help deal with stress and release emotions that can be detrimental to individual growth.”

Harmony Meditation is offered at noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the ESU Recreation Center.  Head said the classes will also be held during the school semester as well.

“No advanced training is required. This class is for beginners to learn to relieve stress and clear the mind,” Head said. “Meditation is something I have been doing most of my adult life. Recent life changes brought me back to truly using it (meditation) to understand myself more and to become more aware of my inner and outer world.”

The classes are free for currently enrolled students and SRC members.  Non-members can pay 50 cents per day to join in the session.

“The class entails mostly breathing exercises, intoning/chanting of mantras and visualization,” Head said. “I am incorporating mindfulness techniques to also aid participants as well.”

Head said from time to time he will feature CD’s that use neuro-linguistic programming to aid in placing the brain of the participant in a deep meditative state. For more information visit http://www.transparentcorp.com.

“I plan on leaving a library of CD’s for participants to take home at their leisure and use outside of class,” Head said. “These will also include documentation with specific instructions on what to expect and how use the sessions on the CD.”

Head has also taught Harmony Meditation to community groups and church women’s groups.

“This is a relaxing way to reduce stress in your everyday life,” Head said. “I encourage everyone to come out and bring a friend.”
