ESU names seven full-ride scholarship recipients

Emporia State University has named seven students who will receive the prestigious Virginia Endly Scholarship for the 2005-2006 academic year. The Virginia Endly Scholarship is the university's only full-ride academic scholarship, covering the cost of in-state tuition and fees, residence hall fees, full meal plan, and the average cost of books and supplies for a full-time student.

ESU alumnus H. Merle Endly established the fund in honor of his sister, Virginia Endly, who died in 1998. A College of Emporia alumna, Virginia Endly began teaching home economics in 1942. She retired in 1989 after 29 years of service as an associate professor of home economics at Tennessee Technical College in Cookeville , Tenn. Merle Endly received his master's degree in business from ESU in 1943. He was a commercial and residential painter in Utah for many years before returning to Emporia in 1999. He died in 2002.

2005-2006 Virginia Endly Scholars

Zachary T. Andrews, Emporia, Kan., will be a freshman majoring in biology, chemistry and pre-medicine this fall. He is a 2005 graduate of Emporia High School .

Anne M. Kelly, Grenola, Kan., will be a freshman majoring in pre-pharmacy this fall. She is a 2005 graduate of West Elk High School .

Dacia R. Krueger, Americus, Kan., will be a freshman majoring in business this fall. She is a 2005 graduate of Northern Heights High School .

Andrea A. Leiker, Lyons, Kan., will be an undeclared freshman in the fall. She is a 2005 graduate of Lyons High School . Leiker will also be a guard on the ESU women's basketball team.

Zahra Nasr-Azadani, Emporia, Kan., will be a freshman majoring in psychology this fall. She is a 2005 graduate of Emporia High School . Nasr-Azadani will be a member of the ESU debate team.

Stephanie L. Schifferdecker, Mulvane, Kan., will be a freshman majoring in biology this fall. She is a 2005 graduate of Mulvane High School .

Justin R. Wieser, La Vista, Neb., will be a freshman majoring in business management. He is a 2005 graduate of La Vista High School. Wieser will also be a running back on the ESU football team.
