Williams named new VP for student affairs

Jim Williams was recently named ESU's vice-president for student affairs, after serving as the associate vice-president for student affairs since June.

Williams began this new chapter of his life in December.

Working with and serving students, which is Williams' top priority, is nothing new to him. He has served in many capacities on the ESU campus. He came to campus in 1996 as the assistant director of residential life, became the interim director in 1998, and the director in 1999.He played a double role for about six months, serving as both associate vice-president for student affairs and director of residential of life

Williams said that his aim is to support the academic mission of the university.

"Our general goal is to increase what we can do to assist the student populations and increase what we can do to assist students," he said. "Another goal is having a concentrated effort on building collaboration amongst the university community. I think the overall role of student affairs as a profession is to assist in the academic mission of the institution."

"Serving Our Students with Pride" is the slogan that adorns the back of Williams' business card and that is definitely what he can be seen doing daily -overseeing everything from recreation programs to admissions.

"Student's themselves are just a pleasure," he said. "I have been able to get a bigger picture of the dynamite students we have here."

Williams grew up in New England , and is a native of Connecticut . He received his Bachelor of Science from Keene State College in Keene New Hampshire . He earned a Master of Education Administration from South Dakota State University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Nebraska and is currently finishing his Ph.D at the University of Kansas .
