The Emporia State University community will honor its history with a Feb.15 celebration of its founding that features events throughout the day for the campus and community.
The festivities will begin with the traditional luncheon in the Memorial Union Ballroom at 11:30 a.m. The buffet-style luncheon is $6.25, which includes a beverage. Employees will receive a 1 percent discount on their meal for each year they have been employed by the university.
Sam Dicks, University Historian, and former professor in the Department of Social Sciences will speak about William Allen White and his connections with then-President Butcher and KSTC. Entertainment will be provided by the music department and Educational Theatre Company.
All Founders Society members (alumni and friends who have chosen to name ESU a beneficiary in their estate plans) are honored during this event and will receive a free meal.
ESU students will also celebrate Founders' Day in the Center for Student Involvement from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Harmonious Voices of Praise, ESU's gospel choir, will provide entertainment while cake is served.
For the first time in Founders' Day history, ESU is extending its celebration to two out of state locations. ESU Advancement representatives will travel to Phoenix and Denver to celebrate with ESU alumni and show a video presentation of some of the university's accomplishments.
The public is invited to join the university in its Founders' Day celebration. For more information about Founders' Day activities contact the Sauder Alumni Center at 341-5440.
