ESU to host Flute Day

The Emporia State University Department of Music will present ESU's third annual Flute Day on Sat., Feb. 12. in Heath Recital Hall of Beach Music Hall. Flute Day will feature guest artist Kristin Shaffer.
"Shaffer is the principal flutist in the Hutchinson and Newton Mid-Kansas Symphonies, and she teaches privately in Wichita ," said Kate Bergman, Flute Day coordinator.
Registration for Flute Day will begin at noon , followed by a concert by Kristin Shaffer at 1 p.m. Master classes, flute choirs and exhibits will be presented from 2-5:30 p.m. At 7 p.m. there will be a final concert.
"Exhibits will include flute music, instruments and accessories from Flint Hills Music in Emporia, as well as flute day T-shirts and food for sale from Kappa Kappa Psi, one of ESU's honorary music organizations," Bergman said. "Master classes and clinics will be presented in the afternoon; our guest artist (Shaffer) will work with college students, and I will be work with middle and high school students. A few students will be performing solos, but I will involve all students and have them play scales and demonstrate correct position and posture. Everyone will do some hands-on playing!"
