Emporia State University to offer Engraving Arts degree
An exciting collaboration is happening in the art world between Glendo Corporation, Emporia State University and the Emporia Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Bureau.
Emporia State University is home to one of the only 250 fine arts programs accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Glendo Corporation, located in Emporia , Kansas is the world's premier provider of GRS tools, techniques, and training for engravers.
Beginning in the fall of 2006, ESU will offer the first university degree in engraving arts available in the world: Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with a Concentration in the Engraving Arts.
The degree program is to include an engraving professor at ESU and a new campus facility, and eventually lead into an engraving museum, a worldwide engraver's guild, entrepreneurial chances in engraving and more. This professorship will be funded with a $1.5 million endowment.
Students will learn basic and traditional techniques to apply to art media in ways unique to their visions.
“The engraving arts degree will be the only four year degree in engraving arts in the world, as best we can tell, which really establishes Emporia State and Emporia , Kansas as a specialized niche in the engraving arts,” said ESU President Kay Schallenkamp.
Basic courses would be taught by an ESU professor of engraving, while the masters already instructing at Glendo will also work with students.
A reception will be held August 13, 2005 in the Sauder Alumni Center on the ESU campus to officially announce ESU's new program in the engraving arts.
