Greek community gives back
Members of Emporia State University's fraternities and sororities went to war - with pennies - and raised $761 during last week's Greek Week activities. Students, faculty, staff and the Emporia community contributed to the cause.
The money will be donated to the John Micus's art scholarship through Burlington High School . Micus, a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, died in a car accident last summer.
Micus' fraternity and Chi Omega sorority raised the most money. Chi Omega raised $113.93 and Sigma Phi Epsilon raised $71.42.
The Greek community also held a community service drive to collect items to send to Operation HomeFront in St. Louis , MO. Operation HomeFront is collecting items to send overseas to wounded soldiers. Each chapter competed to see which organization could donate the most items; collectively the ten chapters donated enough items to fill seven large boxes. Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority members donated the most items.
