ESU professor named interim director of accrediting organization

Dr. Marvin Kuehn was recently named the interim director of the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE).

CORE is the nationally recognized accreditation organization for master's degree programs in Rehabilitation Counselor Education.

Kuehn joined the ESU faculty as an assistant professor in 1973, and is now a professor in the Department of Counselor Education and Rehabilitation Programs in the Teachers College.

"As interim director, I am responsible for implementing CORE's mission and directives, maintaining communication with other professionals in the field, planning and formulating basic policies to further the objectives of CORE, and much more," Kuehn said.

Kuehn has served as director of Rehabilitation Programs for 31 years. Among other accomplishments, he is the ESU representative to the Kansas Instituted on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies in Higher Education, has been a member of the Editorial Boards of Journal of Rehabilitation and Journal of Rehabilitation Education, and was awarded the Distinguished Career Service award from the National Council on Rehabilitation Education (NCRE) in 1989.

He is currently on the National Advisory Committee of the National Institute on Rehabilitation Leadership, and serves on the Executive Board of CORE.

Kuehn is expected to serve as Interim Director of CORE until September 2005, when it is hoped that a permanent director will be named.

Kuehn received his bachelor's degree in Zoology and Chemistry and master's degree in Rehabilitation from ESU. He received his doctorate in counseling and guidance from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1974.
