NTHF president resigns

Joe York, president of The National Teachers Hall of Fame, announced his resignation effective May 11. York, a lifelong resident of Bartlett, Tenn., assumed the duties as president of The National Teachers Hall of Fame last June.

"As a member of the first class of National Teacher Hall of Fame inductees in 1992, Joe brought unique experience and special knowledge to the organization," said Dr. Kay Schallenkamp, Emporia State University President. "We appreciate the contributions he made to the Hall of Fame and wish him well in his future endeavors."

For the past three years York has served on the Board of Trustees of The National Teachers Hall of Fame and developed its current programming plan.

York has taught in a variety of environments since 1966. He has received several Excellence in Teaching Awards from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville . He has also been Teacher of the Year at Whitehaven, Millington Central, and Fayette-Ware High Schools in Memphis , Tenn. He was in the first class of teachers inducted into The National Teachers Hall of Fame.

York plans to return to university teaching and to professional development of public school teachers in his native state of Tennessee .
