Judy Calhoun received the St. George National Award from the American Cancer Society

Judith Calhoun
Judith E. Calhoun, chair of the Newman Division of Nursing at Emporia State University , recently received the prestigious and distinguished St. George National Award from the American Cancer Society. Calhoun is presently chair of the Heartland Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society, which represents Kansas , Nebraska , Missouri , and Oklahoma .
The American Cancer Society St. George National Award recognizes the exemplary leadership, years of service, and commitment of a volunteer to the Society. Dr. Calhoun has dedicated her life to helping cancer patients and their families through her ongoing commitment to the mission of the Society. Calhoun has served as a volunteer at Camp Hope , a Society camp for children with cancer for 24 years. She remains involved with the Camp Hope committee, serving as chair of the Camp Hope statewide committee for Kansas , the director of the nursing staff for the camp, and as a volunteer registered nurse when the camp is in session.
Calhoun has also served on the Society's Ends Committee, the Quality of Life task force, and is a member of the Strategic Advisory Group on Volunteerism. All of these groups have greatly benefited from her enthusiastic involvement. Her current American Cancer Society titles include: member of the Heartland, Texas , and Hawaii-Pacific Divisions Merger Workgroup; delegate for the National Assembly; member of the National Stakeholder Relations Committee; member of the National Quality of Life Committee; an elected member of the National Nominating Committee. She recently was elected to be the chair of the Board of Directors of the newly formed High Plains Division, representing Kansas , Nebraska , Missouri , Oklahoma , Texas and the Hawaii-Pacific region.
It is an honor to be a recipient of the American Cancer Society St. George National Award, said Dr. Calhoun. I am just one of thousands of volunteers that commit their time to Society programs and services in the fight against cancer. The Society has made so much progress over the past 25 years, but we will continue to lead the fight until cancer is eliminated.
