Corky brought to the center of it all
A new statue titled, “Corky” has made its debut in front of Plumb Hall. “Corky” sits on a block-shaped pedestal that is engraved with a power “E” on both sides. “Corky” is made of bronze and is considered to be “life-size,” weighing in at a little over 400 pounds. The statue is currently under construction with a few finishing touches. The power “E’s” on the pedestal will be filled in with a black plastic, and the front of the pedestal will bear a bronze plaque explaining its presence.
“Corky” was designed by John Forsythe, an ESU alumnus (BA 1975). Forsythe was also the artist for the fiberglass Corkys in the “Corky’s on Parade,” and the limited edition maquette Corky’s.
“Corky will enhance the freshman walk and the freshman experience, we want to start a new tradition for the university,” said Boyce Baumgardner, Executive Director for University Advancement.
The idea of the “Corky” statue was formed during the excitement of the “Corky’s on Parade.” “Corky” was anonymously donated to the university to help show ESU pride. A formal dedication for the statue will take place on August 17th.
