ROUNDTABLE

The following is a summary of faculty and staff accomplishment reported to ESU Public Affairs and Marketing in February 2004:

AWARDS


Dr. Darla Mallein, assistant professor in the Department of Social Sciences, was as selected as Kansas State University’s College of Education Outstanding Graduate Student Award for Fall 2003 based on scholarship and service to the university and profession.

PUBLICATIONS

Dr. DeWayne Backhus, professor and chair of the Departments of Physical Sciences, had an article titled "It's Not Just a Theory" selected for inclusion in Evolution in Perspective published by the National Science Teachers Association. Prepublication releases described the compendium as a collection of "12 influential articles" which express "views and voices on the nature of science" on a subject which "could benefit from a strong dose of perspective."


Dr. Khaled Alshare, assistant professor in the Department of Accounting and CIS, James Wenger, assistant professor in the Department of Accounting and CIS, and Dr. Donald S. Miller, professor in the Department of Business Administration and Education, published “A Comparative Study: Ethical Perspectives of American and Jordanian Students,” in the Journal of Legal, Ethical and Regulatory Issues, Vol. 6, No. 2 (2003), pages 39 - 51.
Dr. Khaled Alshare, professor in the Department of Accounting and CIS, Xueming Luo of SUNY College at Fredonia, and Dr. Hani I. Mesak of Louisiana Tech University, “Evaluating the Efficiency of the Big-three American Automotive Companies: an Application of Dea Window, Sensitivity and Cluster Analysis, Journal of Business, Industry and Economics, Vol. 3 - Fall 2003, pp.13 - 30.

faye smith, associate professor in the Department of Business Administration and Education, and Krishman Ramaya of North Dakota State University published “The Role of Level of Country Development on Type of International Cooperative Arrangement Activities: A Survey of U. S. Based Manufacturing Multinationals,” in the Journal of Transnational Management Development, Vol. 8 (3), 2003, pp. 3 - 18.

Dr. Eric L. Trump, Associate Professor of Physical Sciences, along with Dr. Wei Cui and Dr. William Gmeiner of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, had an article published in Nucleosides, Nucleotides, and Nucleic Acids, Vol. 23, Numbers 1 and 2, pp. 401-410, entitled Enhanced DNA-Directed Effects of FdUMP[10] Compared to 5FU.

James K. Deane, graduate student in the Department of Physical Sciences, published “Diagnose Before You Dispose: Electronics Repair,” and article about developing library collection development in the area of technology, in the February 1, 2004 edition of the Library Journal. Vol. 129 No. 2 pp.51-54.

OTHER

Dr. Elizabeth Locey, associate professor and interim chair of the Department of Foreign Languages, was named Secretary of the international association Women In French. She was already a member of the Executive Council, representing the Central/Rocky Mountains region.

The Roundtable publishes announcements about current and retired ESU faculty and staff. Graduate students are included only when accompanying an ESU faculty or staff member. Undergraduate students are not included.

Please identify all individuals named in your submission according to title (professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor, e.g.) and department (Department of Biological Sciences, Counselor Education and Rehabilitation Programs, e.g.). Include the designation "Dr." where appropriate.

If your submission lists someone from another university, please indicate the name and location (city, state) of the university.

The Roundtable publishes announcements in the following categories: appointments, awards, conferences, grants, presentations, and publications. Other categories may be included as needed. Announcements are published after the fact, so please hold future information and submit after occurrence.
