Nursing students recognized

The annual student nurse recognition ceremony was held in May in Albert Taylor Hall. Dr. Judith Calhoun, Chair of the ESU Newman Division of Nursing welcomed the students, faculty and approximately 500 guests to the ceremony. Don Hill, pharmacist and Kansas House Representative, delivered the keynote address. Dr. Diane Okeson, assistant professor in nursing, introduced the sophomore nursing students who received their nursing caps or student pins and certificates. Ms. Lynnette Schmidt, assistant professor in nursing, introduced the junior class who received caps with 2nd year ribbons or student pins and certificates. The graduating class was introduced by Mrs. Linda Adams-Wendling, assistant professor in nursing. Senior student nurses received their nursing pins and gifts from the Newman Regional Health Medical Staff. Paige Loftus received the Funston J. Eckdall Award, which is presented to an outstanding graduating student who demonstrates leadership in nursing and academic excellence. Stephanie M. Frazier received the Frances Stout Award, which recognizes excellence in clinical nursing. The caps, ribbons, pins and gifts were distributed by Dr. Judith Calhoun; Dr. John O. Schwenn, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Rod Sobieski, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; and Mr. Terry Lambert, Chief Executive Officer of Newman Regional Health.
