“Corky” Dedication to be Held August 17
The new “Corky” statue which recently made its debut in front of Plumb Hall will be formally dedicated August 17, 2004 after the General Assembly, which begins at 1:30 p.m.
According to Boyce Baumgardner, Executive Director for University Advancement, the ceremony will be simple, with an unveiling of a dedication plaque. The plaque will be placed on the front of the statue and explain “Corky’s” presence. Cookies and punch will be served in the Rotunda after the dedication.
New students and freshman will have the opportunity to start a new tradition for the university, as they march pass “Corky” during the annual Hornet Walk and freshmen experience, next week.
The idea for this life-size, bronze, 400-pound statue was formed during the excitement of the “Corky’s on Parade.” “Corky” was anonymously donated to the university to help show ESU pride.
