The following is a summary of faculty and staff accomplishment reported to ESU Public Affairs and Marketing in June 2004:

CONFERENCES

Elaine Edwards, professor emeritus, Department of Music and Yvonne Ballester, director, School of Library Information Management, attended the “Every Child Can” course, an indepth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning at the Ottawa Suzuki Institute Mid-Southwest. The guest clinician was Edward Kreitman, Founder and Director of the Western Springs School of Talent Education and the Naperville Suzuki School, Illinois.


PRESENTATIONS

Jim Agee, director, Colorado Distance Education, Department of School of Library and Information Management, recently conducted a half-day workshop for about 300 librarians, publishers, and booksellers. He was invited to lead the workshop as part of the third annual two-day Southern African Library Acquisitions Conference (SALAC). The workshop was held in Pretoria, South Africa on the18th May 2004.

Elaine O. Henry, associate professor, Department of Art, was a guest lecturer at the 1000 Years Celebration of Porcelain Conference in Jingdezhen, China. She spoke to the delegation on The Spirit and History of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA). After the conference, she traveled to Beijing, where she presented a slide lecture on her work to students and faculty in the Art Department at Tsinghua University.

Kristin Grayson, Resource Specialist for the Project Achievement Grant, Department of Foreign Language, recently presented a session, along with Cris Lovington of Goodland, Kansas, at the KSDE Professional Development Conference in Overland Park. Their topic was the Mexican cultural concept of "muy educada" (well-educated) and other cultural concepts concerned with working with students of Mexican heritage in American schools.

Dr. Ken Weaver, chair, Department of Psychology and Special Education, has had two
chapters published in the new book Measuring Up: Educational Assessment
Challenges and Practices for Psychology published by the American
Psychological Association. The citations are:

Dr. Christopher C. Lovett, associate professor, Department of Social Sciences, “Rethinking the Cold War: A Review of Notable Books," Choice; Vol. 41 - No. 10, June 2004, pp. 1785-1793.

Dr. Nancy Groneman, professor, Department of Business Administration and Education, published a Chapter in the NBEA 2004 Yearbook - Virtual Learning, Collaborative Environments, and Future Technologies. The title of the chapter Dr. Groneman wrote is “Instructional Materials and the Internet.”

Include the designation "Dr." where appropriate.

If your submission lists someone from another university, please indicate the name and location (city, state) of the university.

The Roundtable publishes announcements in the following categories: appointments, awards, conferences, grants, presentations, and publications. Other categories may be included as needed. Announcements are published after the fact, so please hold future information and submit after occurrence.
