ROUNDTABLE

The following is a summary of faculty and staff accomplishment reported to ESU Public Affairs and Marketing in December 2003:

CONFERENCES

Greg Sievert, instructor in the Department of Biological Sciences and president of the Kansas Herpetological Society, hosted the 30th Annual Meeting at Emporia State University on November 8-9. Those who attended from the Department of Biological Sciences were Dr. Lynnette Sievert, associate professor; Dr. David Edds, professor; Dr. David Saunders, associate professor; Dr. Greg Smith, assistant professor; Dr. Tom Eddy, professor. Dr. Marshall Sundberg, chair of the Department of Biological Sciences, gave the opening welcome address to officially start the KHS Meeting on November 8-9 at ESU.

PRESENTATIONS

Dr. David Saunders, associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, and John Ewing, graduate student in the Department of Biological Sciences, presented the paper “Resistance to Lysing of Erythrocytes in Bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana) Adapted to Multiple Temperatures” at the Kansas Herpetological Society Meeting on November 8-9. Dr. Saunders was the session moderator for a paper session on Saturday and also another one on Sunday

Dr. Ron McCoy, professor in the Department of Social Sciences, delivered a speech titled “‘We Can...We Will’: Homage to the Buffalo Soldiers,” the keynote address at “The African American Military Experience: Buffalo Soldiers to Integration of the Armed Forces,” a teachers’ workshop held at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene on December 6. The workshop, conducted in association with the Ft. Riley Sesquicentennial Celebration, was sponsored by Kansas State University’s Institute for Military History and 20th Century Studies, the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library, and the Eisenhower Foundation.

PUBLICATIONS

Dr. William L. (Bill) Smith, Associate Professor and Interim Chair of the Business Administration and Education Department, presented his paper, “Diffusion of Technology in Mid-America Tourism Hospitality Industry: Initial results of a longitudinal study,” at the 2003 Annual Meeting of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) in Washington, D.C., November 23, 2003. Also, at the conference, he chaired the paper session on Hospitality Management, and, attended the semi-annual Southwest DSI Region Business Meeting as a Council Member. At the meeting, Dr. Smith was chosen as the new Web Manager and Archivist for the Southwest Region.

Dr. Zane Swanson, associate professor in the Department of Accounting and CIS, Bin Srinidhi of the Department of Accountancy at the City University of Hong Kong, Ananth Seetharaman of the Department of Accounting at Saint Louis University, published The Capital Structure Paradigm - Evolution of Debt/Equity Choices, Praeger, 2003, Westport, CT.

Greg Sievert, instructor in biology, had his photographs published in the Frogs and Toads of Tennessee poster (Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency). All of the photographs of the 21 known frogs and toads of Tennessee and the 3 possible residents were taken by Greg Sievert.

Please identify all individuals named in your submission according to title (professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor, e.g.) and department (Department of Biological Sciences, Counselor Education and Rehabilitation Programs, e.g.). Include the designation "Dr." where appropriate.

If your submission lists someone from another university, please indicate the name and location (city, state) of the university.

The Roundtable publishes announcements in the following categories: appointments, awards, conferences, grants, presentations, and publications. Other categories may be included as needed. Announcements are published after the fact, so please hold future information and submit after occurrence.
