Braun thrives by helping people
Stacey Braun says she firmly believes in treating people like you want to be treated.
It is evident by Braun's kind-hearted and caring spirit that she carries this believe close to heart and displays it everyday through her work with students.
Braun who has been Emporia State University 's coordinator of judicial and non-Traditional Programs since August says she loves working with students and this position allows her to do that.
As coordinator of Judicial and Non-Traditional Programs, Braun is responsible for three areas.
One area Braun is responsible for is judicial issues.
"In regards to the judicial aspect of my job, I am responsible for overseeing the Student Code of Conduct, meeting and working with students regarding misconduct and violations of the Code to determine suitable and equitable solutions for misconduct," Braun said. "I am also responsible for gathering and compiling information for the Annual Crime and Security report. Presently, I am working on a pamphlet which will explain and outline the judicial process at ESU for students, faculty, and staff."
"From a Judicial Affairs aspect Stacey brings a sense of dedication and learning to her position," said Jim Williams, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Residential Life. "She genuinely cares about the needs of the students and continues to find ways empower students to uphold the high standards of community associated with ESU."
Braun also works with non-traditional students. She said the most challenging aspect has been trying to find out what services non-traditional students want and need.
"Two areas that are of most concern to them are scholarship opportunities and assistance with child care funding. I am working with the Grants office to find funding sources and hopefully we will be able to increase the availability of resources for the students," she said. "I also am working to compile information about housing options, community information, and other information of interest to non-traditional students."
This is reiterated by Williams. "Stacey has a genuine concern for the needs of this population. She is dedicated to assisting our non-traditional students in finding their niche, be it searching for grant opportunities, assisting in the expansion of student services or developing social programming.
Braun also said making a connection with the non-traditional student population is challenging because they have so many obligations outside of school that it is hard to find time for interaction.
"I want to be an advocate for them," she added.
Braun is also responsible for working with students who decide to withdraw from the university.
"When a student decides to withdraw from the university, I meet with the student and maintain contact with them after they leave," she said. "We want students to know they are important to us and hopefully if they decide to return to college, they will come back to ESU."
Although Braun is new to Student Affairs, she is not new to ESU. Before her current position she worked in the Memorial Union as the administrative assistant to the Director Lynn Hobson for five years.
Braun said the biggest challenges that she faces are educating the university community about the judicial process and that my philosophy is educationally focused. "
I think sometimes there is a negative perception of "judicial affairs"; I want students to walk away having a positive experience. What brought them to the office may not be positive, but hopefully they will learn something from the experience so they make better choices in the future," she said.
Braun said her goal has always been to make a difference in people's lives.
"It is gratifying to have someone tell you that you helped them in some way," she said.
