CONFERENCES
Elaine Henrie , Financial Aid Director and Marion Jones, Public Service Administration I, attended the Rocky Mountain Association of Financial Aid Administrators fall conference in Omaha, NE, on October 17-20.
Elaine Henrie , Financial Aid Director, Connie Corcoran , Assistant Financial Aid Director, and Marion Jones , Jule Kirk, Public Service Administration I, and Bonnie Starr, Administrative Assistant, attended the Kansas Association of Financial Aid Administrators fall conference in Wichita, KS, October 26-29
MEETINGS
Elaine Henrie , Financial Aid Director and Connie Corcoran , Assistant Financial Aid Director, were participants in a workshop "Using Professional Judgment to Help Families Pay for College" held in Kansas City , MO , on November 4.
PRESENTATIONS
Dr. Tom Eddy , professor, Department of Biological Sciences, presented a paper on the "Impact of Sericea Lespedeza and Other Invasive Plants on Range and Wildlife Habitat in the Prairie Ecosystem" at the combined meeting of the Kansas and Oklahoma Wildlife Societies and the Kansas Range Society in Woodward , OK .
Dr. Dwight Moore , associate professor, Department of Biological Sciences, gave a presentation entitled "Faculty Role in Advising" to faculty and staff at Pittsburg State University. Dwight was invited to present by the University Advising Committee at PSU.
Dr. John Richard Schrock , professor, Department of Biological Sciences, was a guest lecturer on "Education in China " for KCIES, an educational consortium of Kansas and Missouri superintendents and principals who are visiting Xian, China in November and arranging student exchange programs.
Greg Smith , assistant professor, Department of Biological Sciences, and Barry Smart, graduate student, presented "Small Mammal Response to Within Patch and Landscape Scale Habitat at the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge, Kansas " at the Central Plains Society of Mammalogists at Fort Hays State University at Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS, October 15-16. Smith also presented "The Plight of the Prairie Dog: History, Politics, and Conservation on the Great Plains" at the Central Plains Society of Mammalogists at Fort Hays State University at Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS, October 15-16.
Elaine Henrie , Financial Aid Director, was a decentralized trainer at the Kansas Association of Financial Aid Administrators fall conference in Wichita , KS , on October 27. Training covered was "Student Loan Issues." She also presented on this topic in Landers, WY, on November 11 and 12. She was also part of a panel entitled "New Financial Aid Professionals: What They Should Have in Their Toolbox."
Janice Prewitt, instructor, Department of English, successfully defended her dissertation on October 28, 2004, at the University of Kansas . "Intertextual Transposition: Spenser's The Faerie Queene and C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy" explores how Lewis's study of Spenser informed Lewis's character as well as his creative writing. Lewis transposes Spenser's scheme of virtues and presentation of Arthur in the development of Ransom, the protagonist of the space trilogy. The study also examines the representation of women and evil by both authors while establishing some perspective on what intertextuality brings to the study of literature.
