Russian librarians to tour Emporia
ESU will host a delegation of leading Russian librarians as they tour the university and other sites in Emporia and Topeka next week.
According to ESU libraries and archives dean Joyce Davis, the tour was arranged by the Open World Leadership Center and independent federal agency which exposes Russian decision makers to their American counterparts through ten-day tours. Along with librarians, groups have included journalists, civic leaders, educators and business people.
The group will meet with officials at ESU, Flint Hills Technical College, USD 253, the Emporia Public Library, Emporia Mainstreet, the Chamber of Commerce, Convention and Visitors Bureau, and local government. They will also tour the state capitol and library as well as the Chase County prairie.
The group will make two public presentations. The first will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the ESU Memorial Union Heritage Room, where the visiting librarians will talk about life in Russia after the breakup of the USSR. The second will be an open forum and community reception Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Emporia Public Library.
