Disability access highlighted Oct. 6-10
ESU will recognize the special needs of the disabled on campus and
in the community
next week with its second annual Disability Awareness Week Oct. 6-10.
According to disability services director Michelle Peters, ESU was
one of the first
universities in the country to provide a wide range of access for the
disabled. ESU has
been offering services for 40 years – 15 years longer than federal
mandates have been in
effect.
“Emporia State has a wonderful history of meeting
the unique needs of students with
disabilities,” she said. “Our office will continue to evolve
with the ever-changing needs
of our students.”
The theme of Disability Awareness Week this year is “A Season of Change.”

Tuesday, October 7th
Presentation: “Remote and Realtime Captioning Accommodations” by Dana Burkendall

Presentation: “IP Videoconferencing” by Kay Shireman

Presentation: “Adapted Vans” by Complete Mobility Systems, Lenexa

Presentation: “What To Do If Someone Has A Seizure” by the Epilepsy Foundation

Disability Awareness Week is sponsored by the Alumni Office, Complete Mobility Systems, Epilepsy Foundation, Home Health Care Center, Multicultural Programs & Services, Office of Academic Affairs, President’s Office, Public Affairs & Marketing, Sodexho, The Teacher’s College and Technology and Computing Services.
