Pauls steps down at Jones Institute

Leo Pauls, executive director of the Jones Institute for Educational Excellence will enter phased retirement at the end of the academic year. Larry Clark, the institute's director of operations, will be the new executive director. Pauls has worked over 30 years at ESU, the last nine as the leader of the Jones Institute. He will continue to teach and coordinate the efforts of The Renaissance Group, a national consortium of colleges and universities, housed at the Jones Institute, with a strong tradition of high-quality teacher education programs and a major commitment to teacher education. Clark has been at the institute for over two years. Before that, Clark was the superintendent of schools in Burlington.

The following students have been elected as new officers of the ESU Interfraternity Council, the the governing body of campus fraternities: President: Eric Fox of Topeka, Kappa Sigma; Vice President: Dustin Hardison of Mulvane, Sigma Tau Gamma; Secretary: Premal Kadakia of Overland Park, Kappa Sigma; Treasurer: Jacob Buster of Wichita, Sigma Phi Epsilon; Recruitment: James Garbarino of Manhattan, Phi Delta Theta; Activities: Dan Murphy of Lenexa, Kappa Sigma; Risk Management: Darrin Sewell of Greensburg, Sigma Phi Epsilon.
Commercial art show held Friday May 9

The B.F.A. program in graphic design presented its senior exhibition of commercial art projects Friday at the Sauder Alumni Center. According to assistant professor Matt Derezinski, the show centered on experimental approaches to corporate identity, including logo development, standards booklet, an annual report, advertisement and packaging. Portfolios were featured by Heather Allen, Evan Broers, John Collins, Diane Frazier, Kim Gaines, Rachel Giefer, Annekatrin Heinz, Shelly Kemph, Cyrus Logan and D.J. Newman.
