ROUNDTABLE

 

The following is a summary of faculty and staff accomplishment reported to ESU Public Affairs and Marketing in June 2003:

 

AWARDS


Dr. James Hoy, professor in the Department of English, is the 2003 recipient of the Xi Phi Outstanding Faculty Award. The award is given to a faculty member who contributes to the welfare and further development of students at ESU. It is nominated and selected by students.

Dr. Susan Kendrick, assistant professor in the Department of English, was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest, largest, and most selective all-discipline honor society. Membership to Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by the chapter. Faculty and professional staff who have received scholarly distinction may be eligible for membership.

Dr. Ron McCoy, professor in the Department of Social Sciences, is the 2003 recipient of the Roe R. Cross Distinguished Professor Award. The Roe R. Cross Distinguished Professor Award is given to the ESU professor who best demonstrates teaching excellence, professional activities, fostering of intellectual atmosphere, service to the university outside the classroom and status as a student mentor.

 

COMMITTEES


Dr. Ken Weaver, chair of the Department of Psychology and Special Education, served on the national committee for the Moffett Memorial Award recognizing the outstanding high school psychology teacher in the nation and was one of the judges for the national Intel Behavioral Science Research Competition for high school students.

 

PRESENTATIONS


Elaine Edwards, professor emeritus, Department of Music was the pianist for the memorial service of the Kansas State PEO Convention June 8th in Wichita. Edwards performed Schubert's Impromptu of 90 No. 1 and Chopin Etude of 25 No. 1 as Prelude and Postlude for the service. She was accompanist for flutist Anne Havenhill and for the service hymns.

David Kaplan, professor and chair of the Department of Counselor Education and Rehabilitation Programs, presented the keynote address and a half day workshop titled, "Knowledge- Based Governance: An Introduction" at the Idaho Counseling Association Leadership Development Institute in McCall, Idaho on June 20 and 21.

 

PUBLICATIONS


Terri Summey, associate professor in the Department of University Libraries and Archives, had several entries published in the Historical Dictionary of the Gilded Age. Edited by Leonard Schlup and James G. Ryan, it was published in 2003 by M. E. Sharpe, Inc. She also had an article, "Who's Out There in CyberSpace: Profiling the Remote Learner for Service Design," published in The Journal of Library Administration, Vol. 37: 3/4 (2002).

The Roundtable publishes announcements about current and retired ESU faculty and staff. Graduate students are included only when accompanying an ESU faculty or staff member. Undergraduate students are not included.

Please identify all individuals named in your submission according to title (professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor, e.g.) and department (Department of Biological Sciences, Counselor Education and Rehabilitation Programs, e.g.). Include the designation "Dr." where appropriate.

If your submission lists someone from another university, please indicate the name and location (city, state) of the university.

The Roundtable publishes announcements in the following categories: appointments, awards, conferences, grants, presentations, and publications. Other categories may be included as needed. Announcements are published after the fact, so please hold future information and submit after occurrence.
